Our Days in the City

So we're in Massachusetts and finally getting settled into our new life in Cambridge. We've been here almost a month, but I've never been one for organizing things quickly after a move (probably not a good characteristic for a military wife!), and am finding that with a baby I am even slower than usual on this. It's starting to get there, though, and our beautiful house is becoming our beautiful home. 

Here is a summation of all we have done and seen in the past five weeks or so since we left Florida and arrived in Massachusetts.

Week one: Leaving Fl and spending time in GA and VA

The movers arrived and took 13 hours to move our tiny little apartment. For those of you who have seen it, you should know how ridiculous that was! But they finally finished, then we cleaned it late at night and the next morning were on our way to Georgia. I rented a car and drove up with Lucy and Kip drove our car with the pets. We had a great time with my family and got to visit with a lot of family both on my mom and dad's side of the family. My nieces, Ruthie and Sophie were excited to meet their new little cousin:

Kip and I managed to get away with Lucy for a family day and we had a great time at the Georgia Aquarium:
Time went quickly, though, and before we knew it, it was time to move on. Kip drove our car from Georgia to Maryland, and Lucy and I flew to Virginia. We were there for two days and saw some good friends and then I flew to Maryland to meet up with Kip. Lucy was an excellent flyer. I was also grateful for fellow passengers on our planes who helped me in huge ways by helping to carry bags and assist. I am sometimes amazed by the kindnesses of random people I encounter.

Week two: Maryland

We spent the next week in Maryland with Kip's family. It was a crazy hectic time as Kip's brother, Chris was graduating from the Naval Academy and getting married all in the same weekend! Early in the week I was happy to be able to get my haircut and then meet up with some old friends and have some great girl time at the Olive Garden, but after that the rest of the week is a blur. It was full of rehearsal dinner planning and execution, manicures and pedicures with the bride, last minute clothes and wedding gift shopping trips with my sister-in-law, graduation, graduation party planning and execution, and wedding time! I got exhausted just writing it all out, so you can imagine what the week was like! We had a great time though, and were so happy to welcome Lindsay into the family and enjoy Chris and Lindsay's beautiful and super fun wedding.

Week three: Massachusetts with Drew and Lindsey

The next week all three of us flew to Rhode Island, checked it at the base, and drove up to Massachusetts. Kip's brother, Drew, and his wife Lindsey, were kind enough to drive our car and pets from Maryland to Massachusetts so Kip and I could travel together. We had a great time with them our first week here. We were able to discover the area together and have decided that they must come back soon so we can do all kinds of fun things we didn't have time for this week.

Week four: Cambridge on our own

This was our first time alone in a month! We loved seeing all of our friends and family, but we also loved being on our own again. Kip had one class he started this week, but he wasn't too busy, so we were able to get some much needed rest and do some fun exploring on our own.

Week five: Old friends and some new ones, too

Our first sunday in Massachusetts we attended an Acts 29 Church called 7 Mile Road. We really liked it and met some very nice people there. We had intended on visiting a different place our second week, but some friends from Seattle contacted us and told us they were in Boston for a few days and asked us to meet them at the Acts 29 church. We quickly agreed. We had a great time reconnecting with them and got to know some of the people in the church better. Later that week we went to dinner at the home of some new friends from the church. They have a little boy who is 4 weeks younger than Lucy, and we had a great time getting to know them better that night and since. It is definitely nice to start connecting with people in the area.

This week: Life goes on

This week it has been cold and rainy. We're wearing sweaters and sweatshirts, which is odd having come from Florida. Kip celebrated his first Father's Day. He is an amazing father and I am so excited to watch Lucy grow up with a great Daddy like Kip. We are still looking for a church in the area. So far we have visited three and like them all and they each come with their own pros and cons, so pray that we will make a wise decision in that area.

 We're planning an Ikea trip for tomorrow, which has me very excited and are hoping the rain will stop by the weekend so we can get out in the city and walk the freedom trail.
